Archival Research

Frequently, the first steps taken to assess cultural resources are to complete a documentary study through archival research. Research is designed to identify historic structures, and to highlight potentially sensitive areas and significant structures, as well as documenting prior site disturbance.

Maps, atlases, photographs, and paintings, as well as tax records, can provide vital information about historic land use and development, or changes to a structure over time.
